Outdoor Education at West Seattle’s Camp Long
Rooted in Nature, Guided by Curiosity, and Grown through Community.
Our purpose
At Archer’s Arrows, our mission is to nurture children’s curiosity, resilience, and sense of belonging through meaningful outdoor learning. We bridge the gap between indoor programs and nature-based education by offering both cooperative family classes and one-day outdoor experiences at Camp Long. Together, we explore the natural world, foster stewardship, and grow a diverse, inclusive learning community.
Our Programs
Six-Week Seasonal Sessions
A gentle introduction to our nature-based learning model. These short seasonal sessions give families a chance to join our co-op community, share in outdoor play, and experience the rhythm of the season without a long-term commitment. Curious how it works? Learn more about our block sessions here.
Perfect for: Families wanting to learn together in nature and build community
A Memorable Adventure in Outdoor Learning
Looking for a one-time opportunity to get your students outside and engaged in a meaningful way? Our field trip experiences are a wonderful introduction to outdoor education. Each field trip is designed to be engaging, educational, and age-appropriate.
This option is great for programs who want to supplement their curriculum with a nature-based outing or simply want to treat their students to a fresh-air adventure with a seasoned outdoor educator. Learn more here.
Great for: schools, preschools, or homeschool groups planning a special day in nature.
Bring Nature into Your School’s Rhythm
Invite your students into a vibrant outdoor classroom where curiosity and confidence grow naturally. Our recurring classes complement your existing curriculum while deepening connection to nature throughout the year. Regular weekly classes nurture a deeper sense of belonging, while monthly classes offer a flexible way to spark that same connection. Learn more about our weekly and monthly classes here.
Ideal for: preschools, K-2 classrooms, co-ops, and homeschool groups seeking a regular outdoor learning component.
Our Educational Philosophy
We believe that nature is a powerful teacher, and that early childhood education thrives when grounded in play, curiosity, and connection. At Archer’s Arrows, our philosophy is shaped by the following core values:
Nature as the Classroom: We embrace the rich, ever-changing environment of Camp Long as our teaching canvas; encouraging exploration, risk-taking, and connection with the natural world.
Child-Led Discovery: Children are naturally curious. We support open-ended, inquiry-based learning where their questions and interests drive meaningful investigation and understanding.
Community Through Cooperation: Rooted in the cooperative model, we believe education is a shared journey. Families play an active role as classroom volunteers, creating a supportive and reflective learning community for children and adults alike.
Inclusion & Accessibility: We are committed to building a space where every child and family feels welcomed, respected, and valued. Diversity is a strength that enriches all aspects of our program.
Stewardship & Responsibility: We teach children to care for the land, themselves, and one another. Through daily rituals, mindful movement, and storytelling, we cultivate respect for the ecosystem and model responsible outdoor behavior.
Hybrid Innovation: Our one-day-per-week outdoor format offers a unique bridge between traditional and nature-based education, expanding access to outdoor learning without requiring full-time enrollment.
