Outdoor Education at West Seattle’s Camp Long

Rooted in Nature, Guided by Curiosity, and Grown through Community.

Our purpose

At Archer’s Arrows, our mission is to provide meaningful, nature-immersive learning experiences that nurture young children’s wonder, resilience, and sense of belonging. Through a hybrid model that bridges indoor schools with outdoor learning at Camp Long, we empower children to explore the natural world, cultivate environmental stewardship, and build a diverse, inclusive learning community.

What we offer

Weekly Outdoor Classes

Bring Nature into Your School’s Rhythm

Our most immersive and transformative option, weekly classes invite your students to develop a lasting relationship with nature, their peers, and a trusted outdoor educator. One day a week, your class will step out of the four walls of traditional learning and into our vibrant outdoor classroom; a living ecosystem where curiosity, resilience, and wonder are nurtured naturally.

With consistent visits, students gain confidence in the outdoors. We build emotional regulation through nature-based play, and engage deeply with seasonal rhythms, local flora and fauna, and hands-on exploration. This model supports the holistic development of children and beautifully complements any existing indoor curriculum.

Ideal for: preschools, K-2 classrooms, co-ops, and homeschool groups seeking a regular outdoor learning component.

Monthly Outdoor Enrichment

A Gentle but Powerful Addition to Your Curriculum

For programs looking to introduce outdoor learning without a weekly commitment, our once-a-month classes offer an inspiring and developmentally rich experience that children look forward to. These sessions are thoughtfully designed to provide meaningful exposure to nature, foster group cohesion, and spark curiosity; even with less frequent visits.

Monthly classes allow students to experience nature’s changing seasons and deepen their connection to the natural world over time.

Perfect for: early learning centers, private schools, co-ops, or homeschool groups looking to enrich their offerings.

Field Trips

A Memorable Adventure in Outdoor Learning

Looking for a one-time opportunity to get your students outside and engaged in a meaningful way? Our field trip experiences are a wonderful introduction to outdoor education. Each field trip is designed to be engaging, educational, and age-appropriate.

This option is great for programs who want to supplement their curriculum with a nature-based outing or simply want to treat their students to a fresh-air adventure with a seasoned outdoor educator.

Great for: schools, preschools, or homeschool groups planning a special day in nature.

Our Educational
Philosophy

We believe that nature is a powerful teacher, and that early childhood education thrives when grounded in play, curiosity, and connection. At Archer’s Arrows, our philosophy is shaped by the following core values:

  • Nature as the Classroom: We embrace the rich, ever-changing environment of Camp Long as our teaching canvas; encouraging exploration, risk-taking, and connection with the natural world.

  • Child-Led Discovery: Children are naturally curious. We support open-ended, inquiry-based learning where their questions and interests drive meaningful investigation and understanding.

  • Community Through Cooperation: Rooted in the cooperative model, we believe education is a shared journey. Families play an active role as classroom volunteers, creating a supportive and reflective learning community for children and adults alike.

  • Inclusion & Accessibility: We are committed to building a space where every child and family feels welcomed, respected, and valued. Diversity is a strength that enriches all aspects of our program.

  • Stewardship & Responsibility: We teach children to care for the land, themselves, and one another. Through daily rituals, mindful movement, and storytelling, we cultivate respect for the ecosystem and model responsible outdoor behavior.

  • Hybrid Innovation: Our one-day-per-week outdoor format offers a unique bridge between traditional and nature-based education, expanding access to outdoor learning without requiring full-time enrollment.

If you’re a parent wishing your child had more outdoor time at school, we hear you. While our classes are offered through schools and programs (not individual enrollment), you can advocate for your child’s access to nature by sharing this opportunity with your child’s teacher or school director. We’d love to connect!
